Near misses lead to opportunities

IWAP Walking Group posing with new reflectors

Its true. I might have missed the opportunity if I hadn’t been hit by a car on January 1st. Michal & I were walking on the legal pedestrian crossing and watching the car coming towards us but realized quite late that the driver wasn’t slowing down a bit. He ended up slamming on his breaks and I only got bumped. I think it took both Michal & I more than a minute to process our very long lives before reacting appropriately. By the time we got to the sidewalk I was in tears and the guy had driven off.

During the past few months I had already started noticing that so many people had these bright reflector bands on their bags and wondered where they got them. It is winter here with less light and everyone wears really dark coats and hats, I can understand why the cars can’t see them.  So I told Michal we really need to get some too, especially after the recent incident.

He agreed because somehow he already knew it was a law from the past year requiring anyone who is walking on the road to have a reflector if there are no street lights. Surprisingly they actually require the pedestrian to take some responsibility on the roads too, and it is a good rule.

In true Lebl fashion, rather than just get the two for us, he bought 50 of them with my blog address. He never misses an opportunity to market me or anyone of us in the family.   So, for first 35 people to follow my blog, you will get one of the life saving devices.

I always tell my kids if they stay between the lines when crossing they get paid if they get hit. Glad you’re ok cuz💕 April’s ok but was rear ended so hard slammed her into truck in front of her, totalling her car…near miss? the truck had stopped for a pedestrian – can you imagine if that truck had not been between her and pedestrian.

    1. Definitely we pedestrians need to catch the eye of the driver even if we have the right of way! Glad April is ok too 🙂
